Students are doing quietly in their exam for getting the high-level English class
Making those needed students become the qualified people is to take long time and need effective strategy of training them. So far, COPE has been extremely trying its hard to make their dream come true, professional and skillful staffs in the very short future with honor and pride. Well, there are two kinds of skill which we are giving in our center: Languages and Computer Skills. For language skill, we have four different languages to train them: English, Thai, Japanese, and French. But, in fact, there are about six languages in our plan, but Korean and Chinese Languages are not available yet because of the lack of teacher for these classes.
These young students are listening carefully to their teacher about school rule
The amount of pupil is the highest one, about 70% of our total number. Most of them are from different primary schools around Serei Sophon District, in especially difficulty circumstance. COPE significantly promotes them to receive our educational service for free, and encourage them to persuade his or her friends to come. Furthermore, we also send out our outreach officers to recruit the most needed children in rural area, and broadcast the object of COPE. Still, the increase in a great number of students of COPE has been rising up nearly 360 students; the very crowded classes force us to add extra-teaching time in the evening: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, special additional program. So, we have to teach three times a day in order to fill this overwhelming amount of student.
There are just only five or six students to be accepted for this computer class
By looking through these people using the PCs, you hardly see whether it is a computer room in our center or whether it is just a simple Internet Café in the private shop. Of course, here is our computer room where only six PCs are there, with six students and a computer teacher. The room is not good looking because there is not either door or proper walls, and it is easily interrupted by the noise of students in other rooms, etc. All of our participants for computer class passed successfully our English Placement Test before they had been selected to study. COPE is looking forward to receiving the generous helps from donors for its languages and computer class in order to meet the need of amount of students which is continuing to rise. One day, if COPE is able to afford for more ten or twenty PCs and enlarge its computer room, we will support much more students due to the great population of applicants for this course.
Our female staffs are busy to work in over-time to complete one of the urgent tasks
A total number of our staffs are about six-teen for both of working in full-time and part-time, meanwhile, seven of them are female. Frankly, all of them are very kind and effective volunteers for task of this charity, and have built a cohesive, well-organized team together. But there is still little ability that we will succeed in our goal, because we seem like a pregnant woman who needs a good care, encouragement, gentleness, nutrition, etc. to support not only for herself but also for her babe (A pregnant woman is like COPE Cambodia organization, meanwhile students refer to her babe) . Nevertheless, it is very crucial that we try our best. However, everything we do is for giving the next generation reasons to hope. Undoubtedly, the staffs of COPE devoted themselves to their charitable task of training those target people.
Regularly, technical meeting always held to scratch out the root of the problem
As the principle of COPE said, each of every staffs feels free to show his or her opinion and criticizes each other for not serving the proper task of mercy mission stated in the policy of COPE Cambodia organization. In the picture above, they are sitting together to find out the good solution for strategy of between teaching young students and adults, under honor of Director of COPE. In spite of the young, they are acutely aware of the suitable solution for the difficulties they are facing because they used to be trained and used to practice before they come and work here. With the deep experience background of teaching for years, they are talented young staffs to be appointed as teachers by their own skills. For the COPE, education is high on the agenda and discussed very meaningfully without boring. Sometimes, we had spent a plenty of time to talk about our agenda since breakfast time until lunch time and then we still cannot find a good solution at all. Perhaps, this is our weak point to study and need to be guided.
Our young volunteers are trained carefully about pedagogy before allowed to start their class
A number of recent changes in the methodology of language and computer teaching surely become our internal issue. Although those volunteers have ever experienced these problems in their previous job, they are required to get the additional training course about pedagogy before they are allowed to teach. To make our good quality at teaching, we are also asked to acquire divine virtues and rectify our shortcomings. In addition to overcoming our weakness, we really need what it was called a robust process of self-development and we never lost enthusiasm for the work. Active learning is the key to growth and it involves applying the acquired knowledge in improving one’s capabilities and in transforming one’s character and personality. In order to apply the acquired knowledge to the elimination of our short-comings and to the acquisition of good attributes, we need to pass through a number of stages. ‘To Teach Is To Learn, and To learn Is To Teach.’, is one of our new topics to discuss.
