What is the main goal of COPE Cambodia?

Well, there are two things that we would like to inform you about COPE Cambodia, free-tuition education and children who are in the especially difficulty circumstances. So, these are important elements of our main goal for setting up this organization. Actually, we have been providing two kinds of skill to those children (orphans, the disabled and poor children):

  • 1.) Language Skills: In the first stage of our language classes, we have already six English Classes in use with overwhelming amount of young students. And for other languages such as Thai, Japanese, and French are in our next step.
  • 2.) Computer Skills: There are four different skills to be granted: Office Skills, Internet & E-mail, Upgrading and Repairing PCs, and Graphic Design. This is just our first program for only operating within Serei Sophon District, and our second one we will comment later.

What is an acronym for COPE? And how is it now?

COPE stands for ‘Cambodian Organization for Progress and Education’. It was established in February 2nd, 2006 as local NGO which was completely recognized by the Royal Government of Cambodia in order to serve the charitable mission of providing educational service in Banteay Meanchey Province. From the fist day of open and with our great striving, we are entering a period of success. COPE has been known extensively with its fame of educational task. There are a lot of students (children and teenagers) studying languages and computer courses in our organization, today. Most of them stand by COPE and appreciate our enthusiasm for teaching for free. But, it is just a new organization, so we dare say that we have some lacks of office materials, chairs and tables for our classes, more PCs, qualified teachers, both of staffs and volunteers, and especially technical support and fund.

Who will support COPE? And what is the future vision of it?

Actually, it is a non-profit, local NGO that operates its charitable mission for education development for target children. All of volunteers and staff are so kind, patient and support what is the most urgent need due to the COPE’s demand. But, anyway, we are absolutely looking for generous donors from around the world who are really wanting to share their education means to those children. Our future vision is our second step to discuss later. But we will plan to outreach of the communities in order to build the capacity of rural students and commune staffs via making a good cooperation with the local authorities.

How does COPE Cambodia run its charitable action without any supporters-both of technical and fund support?

With your fruitful question, I can see you are so worried about our COPE Cambodia, especially our financial crisis at the moment, because COPE was just born from Cambodian volunteers who are little rich enough to support the widespread mercy mission of providing education for those children for free. But at least, we entered the series of successful stages; COPE has it own building with other materials such as: PCs, tables, chairs, white-boards, small library, etc. Furthermore, about 600 students have been studying other different skills (Languages and Computer) since the first day of its open. Nowadays, we are supporting this poor organization by ourselves meanwhile we are trying to look for donors and partnership happily.

Can you tell about the people of this COPE Cambodia in more detail? Do you think COPE Cambodia can afford for reaching its goal in the future?

Well, you can see their profiles in our site. Sure, we do. Of course, we do feel proud of what we have done for those target children. But COPE cannot make it alone, it really need other counterparts to cooperate right now.

How will you persuade those supporters to keep their eyes on your organization?

Our active mission will tell them to look at COPE Cambodia, one day. As we answered above, we do feel proud of what we have done for those children. If donor is really interested in our organization, it is a pleasure to welcome him or her very warm.
